“IBEX” Training System – Interactive Behavioral Education Crossroads

A LOSS CONTROL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM THROUGH CHANGE TRAINING

IBEX-med

W. Randall Davis, BCFE, CHS-III has been training employees and managers in a broad range of industries, located in various parts of the country, for over 35 years. After conducting and attending training programs that were inherently boring, monotonous, and dealing with complicated federal and state regulations, he determined that the average person:

  • retained about 10% of the training program information,
  • was unable to actually translate more than 3-5% in daily applications,
  • did not truly understand outcomes of unsafe behavior, and
  • was not able to emotionally or intentionally connect with the information that produces improved safety and loss-control performance.

“Communication in safety is not to impress or convince people; but to impact them in such a manner that results in their being changed.”

Meticulously considering the consequences of uninspiring lackluster safety and loss-control training that fails to actually mitigate workplace deaths, property damages, and injuries he painstakingly begin to work toward identification of precise algorithmic common divisors that are key requisites to making a powerful impact. Those faculties included:

A. Robust interaction with the trainer (educator) and elevated interest in program details
B. Vigorous energy levels and acute sensitivity to information
C. Endurance and stamina over long hours of information exchange (eight-hour training requirements)
D. Empathetic response to the demonstrated results of unsafe practices and risk disposed activities
E. Employee investment and stake-holding
F. Superior levels of retention in testing and examinations.

By conducting a thorough analysis and measuring of the above behavioral responses observed on a uniform basis, a crossroads of stimuli was identified and the IBEX system was born. The IBEX method is a structured execution of the identified stimuli responsible for producing a stellar learning experience that achieves behavioral change with respect to developing powers of reasoning and good judgement. The organizational elements include:

  • Performance
  • Demonstration
  • Appearance
  • Staging
  • Exposition
  • Allocation
  • Motivation
  • Inducement
  • Technical Information, and
  • Incentive.

In a recent program for managers of an airport facility, one manager stood up at the completion of an eight-hour training day and stated, “I can’t believe I just sat through a full day of training and regretting that it is over. This was a great experience.”

Another senior manager who made the arrangements for the required program stated, “I was sure everyone would hate me for putting them through this, but it turned out wonderful. I think I may have gained some popularity.”

That kind of response is common among our clientele. IBEX is an extraordinary educational tool with provocative aspects that challenge the mundane culture of inferior safety training, with cutting-edge efficiency and untouchable benefit outcomes in company productivity and control of losses that reduce overhead costs.
